Can you help ?
HeartSWell South West and the British Heart Foundation are working together to raise £97,000 for a life saving piece of equipment for the Cardiothoracic Department at Derriford Hospital.
This vital piece of machinery, a 3D probe is a new, non invasive diagnostic tool which will have a tremendous impact of clinical decision making, resulting in more accurate prognosis for the patient. With valve surgery in particular, it would mean making the decision to replace the valve or repair the valve that much easier.
How can you help? Are you able to organise an event such as a sponsor walk, bike ride, swim? Could you host a pub quiz or hold a 'Come Dine With Me' evening at your home and invite your friends. Instead of awarding points for the best meal - donate money!
If you would like to support us, please contact Rachel at rachel@heartswell.org.uk or telephone 01752 315929.

HeartSWell Open Day Saturday 29th November 2008.
Our second annual open day, was once again a tremendous success with members travelling far and wide to say hello! Many came with donations of goods to sell at the Lodge, thank you Shelley for more HUGS, Jacqui for the beautiful handmade cards Christmas Cards and Alan & Glenda for the lovely knitted Christmas puddings and tea cosies, many thanks also to Iris Gregory of Looe for her beautifully knitted hats and children's clothes!
The day started with a bang at 10.30 as we were once again entertained by the brilliant Kernow Pipes and Drums. At 11.30am a number of us huddled around the radio in the charity office to listen to Clem give his first live interview with Fitz on Radio Devon!
At midday, the children of the Thornbury School Choir once again entertained us with Christmas carols and poems. A buffet lunch was enjoyed by all and at one o’clock we were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor Councillor Brian Vincent and Lady Mayoress Pauline Murphy.
More entertainment from the Pipes and Drums and speeches from Clem, Malcolm — chairman of the Lodge and the Lord Mayor followed. A super day was had by all!

Elfordleigh Golf Club
We have recently received a tremendous donation in excess of £10,000 from Elfordleigh Golf Club in Plympton.
The 2008 captain Jeff Hobbs, chose HeartSWell as his charity of the year and set about raising as much as possible through various sponsored events including walking from Haytor Rocks to Teignmouth. With the help of Chairman Clem Spencer, the club also organised sponsored golf days and took part in HeartSWell’s annual Wear it RED day on Valentine’s Day.
Jeff presented a cheque in the sum of £9975.00 to Clem and patron Judi Spiers on 31st October at a “Beatle Mania” evening held at Elfordleigh. At the event the charity raffled a Plymouth Albion signed rugby ball donated by Allen Caston, jewellery kindly donated by Michael Spiers, a cuddly toy donated by D&V Supplies and a framed chef’s jacket signed by several high profile chefs including the Tanner brothers and Peter Gorton. The winner of the jacket donated it back to HeartSWell, this meant Judi was able to auction it on the spot and raise another £50! In total £593 was raised on the evening which took the clubs donation this year to £10,568.00, an absolutely fantastic achievement which is truly appreciated by all concerned with the HeartSWell charity.
Although we are based in Plymouth, HeartSWell provides support to heart patients across the South West peninsula and continues to raise funds for the South West Cardiothoracic Unit at Derriford. Over the last year this has included printing 10,000 information booklets for cardiac surgery patients, part funding a cardiac nurse counsellor at the hospital and part funding Torpoint Cardiac Support Group.
The charity could not achieve any of its aims without the tremendous hard work of its committee, members and supporters, so a huge thank you to all at Elfordleigh Golf Club and everyone who attended the evening on the 31st.
