Wear It Red for National Heart Month
February celebrates National Heart Month and hundreds of thousands of people across the UK will be helping to raise funds to help tackle heart disease and heart patients. Each year we host a ‘Wear It Red’ day so that we can continue to provide essential equipment to businesses and hospitals across the South West. You can help us by signing up to ‘Wear It Red’.
This year, Wear It Red will be held on Friday 10 February 2017 and we are already looking for businesses and individuals to take part in this event
Did you know?
- Heart disease is one of the biggest killers in the UK
- Around 73,000 people in the UK die from Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) every year
- Every 7 minutes someone in the UK will die from CHD
Help us to save more lives and support families affected by this disease by signing up to ‘Wear it Red’.
All you need to do is encourage people in your place of work or in the community to wear red – whether that’s clothing, lipstick or even a wig. Everyone that takes part should pay £1 and those who don’t get fined £2 because their “heart isn’t in it”.
If you don’t fancy wearing red you can organise another fundraising event with a red theme – a red cake sale or a red wine tasting party for example.
We hope that you, your friends and colleagues are able to take part, and we look forward to hearing about it! We would love to see any photos from the day; make sure you remember to post and tweet your photos with #WearItRed for everyone to see!

Our charity has been helping heart patients, their partners, families and carers throughout the region, raising thousands of pounds from the event since 2006.
Your money has helped us to:
♥ Raise funds to purchase equipment for the South West Cardiothoracic Unit at Derriford Hospital.
♥ Supply schools, community halls and business with a defibrillator
♥ Fund a specialist counselling service in Plymouth.
♥ Provide information booklets to cardiac patients.
♥ We also own HeartSWell Lodge near to the Hospital.
The lodge provides unique accommodation for the relatives of patients who travel to Plymouth for treatment. The cardiac unit at Derriford Hospital serves patients from all over the South West region so as you can imagine HeartSWell Lodge is seen as a blessing for the family and carers of those patients who travel to Plymouth for treatment.
Together let’s ‘Wear It Red’ for National Heart Month
